Book by Dan Brister

Tribute is paid to Rosalie Little Thunder in a full chapter of this book by former BFC Executive Director Dan Brister.

This inspiring narrative by Brister weaves personal reflections and stories of the present-day buffalo slaughter with information gathered through historical, cultural, and scientific research. Five chapters explore the complex relationship between human beings and bison.

Author Daniel Brister has dedicated his life to protecting the buffalo through field work and at every level of the policy arena. In the Presence of Buffalo was motivated by Dan's desire to see the buffalo honored, respected, and protected; and the slaughter ended.

From the author:
I chose to write a personal account of the ongoing controversy surrounding America’s last wild population of native bison as I’ve experienced it: from the point of view of someone who has lived with the buffalo and been intimately involved with their protection for a decade and a half. More than a scholarly or political look at the buffalo slaughter, I offer readers a unique weave of personal narrative and historical exploration.

Proceeds directly benefit buffalo, because all proceeds support the work of Buffalo Field Campaign.
